The year is 2019 I am in year 7 at school. Everything at home was brilliant we had regular family meetings where we voiced our opinions on things that were going well and things that we were not happy with; by doing this it helps everyone communicate with each other and it strengthened out bond as it gave each of us a platform to express ourselves.

But the one thing that was really significant this year was year was moving from my primary school to secondary school. I can still remember feeling anxious and a little scared but most of my friends from primary school were going so I knew quite a lot of children. I was becoming more independent, firstly I was catching the school bus to and from school and my foster carer would pick me up from the bus stop as it is a 2 mile walk along the lane to where we lived. I packed my school bag the night before making sure all my homework was up to date. I do remember that sometimes the bus was very loud and because I have hyperacusis I found it more comfortable to put my noise cancelling earbuds in this helped me so much on the journeys. I settled in quickly and was enjoying the different subjects. I found my way round the school quite easily, but I do have a great sense of direction.

Contact with my birth family was going great, I chose to see my mum and two sisters separately on a monthly basis which gave me quality time with everyone.

We went on holiday to Devon this year and had a great time body boarding, kayaking, swimming, and we went on a speed boat ride it was thrilling.

This year I remember learning to bake which I still enjoy doing today, apparently, I make a great Victoria sponge, I find baking therapeutic and love trying different ingredients and flavours.

My first Pep at my new school went great and all my teachers had really positive things to say about me which I was really pleased about, but I did make an important decision about my meetings, as a looked after child it can sometimes be embarrassing to be called out of lessons so I asked for my meetings to take place after school or virtually which I am happy to say everyone listened to me and a plan was put in place. All in all 2019 was a great year.
