The year is 2020 and I was in year 8 at school.
School and home life was brilliant I was enjoying school and was excelling in History, Geography, English, Maths, Biology, and Chemistry.
Well, what can I say about 2020 as we all know this was the year covid hit and everything came to a standstill and lockdown happened. Home and school life were quite different. Part of our lounge was set up as a classroom, my day was very structured just like school except I had an extra hour in bed. Some of my work was emailed and some of the lessons were virtual. I have to say I really did not mind working from home. My foster carer says that I achieved so much and working from home really helped me I have to agree.
How did I feel during covid – I was scared and unsure, as was most people but I did not feel isolated, I followed the news and listened to Boris Johnson and part of me felt sorry for him because no matter what he did he was never going to be able to please everyone. I had phone/video contact with my mum and sisters and also my social worker. My birthday during covid was better that I thought and one of my presents was a book which was titled the one where it was in lockdown.
Obviously, there were no holidays this year, we worked out to Joe Wicks, we went for walks and bike rides round the village, one thing I do remember was the police coming into our village which was very rare as we rarely saw people let alone police but what happened was people from towns and neighbouring areas were coming into the village to walk and it was causing chaos, car were parked where they shouldn’t, there was litter everywhere, and 3 cygnets on the lake were killed because people were throwing rubbish into the lake and the cygnets were eating it. It made me feel quite sad that people could be so disrespectful to the countryside, the environment, and mainly to wildlife. I am happy to say that the police did an amazing job of protecting our area and visitors were kept to a minimum.
