The year is 2022 I am 14 years old and in year 10 at school. These are my memories from that year.
Home life – Everything is great at home, I really feel like part of the family, I have an amazing relationship with my foster mum’s son although he is a lot older than me, he is like a brother, he is a personal fitness coach for people with brain injuries. He organises fitness training for me and his children (my foster cousins) it is great fun and keeps us fit. My cooking skills are coming along, and I enjoy cooking different pasta dishes & cakes. We went to one of my favourite restaurants for my birthday with my extended foster family. I can remember going to Old Trafford and watching Man Utd play, as a surprise my foster parents made me a member and I got lots of free stuff. Christmas was brilliant lots of presents, we went out for Christmas dinner it was nice but not as nice as my foster mum’s cooking. We went to Mijas in Spain this year for two weeks it was beautiful, I love travelling and experiencing different cultures, foods, and way of life. We also went to Cornwall for a week and stayed in Mevagissey which is a pretty quaint fishing village. Going abroad is lovely, but we do have some beautiful places in this country.
Birth family – I see my mum and two sisters every month which is exactly what I want. We do have extra contact during the year on my birthday, my two sister’s birthdays, my mum’s birthday, Easter, Christmas, and Mothering Sunday. This works out well and we enjoy exchanging presents. We usually meet up for breakfast and we have days out. Everyone gets on and my foster mum always arranges it and thinks of places to go.
Education – All going great, I really do love my school, this is the year I chose my options, I can remember being happy because I could drop Art, DT, MFL and RE. And concentrate on my Science subjects, History and Geography, I never have liked the creative subjects with the exception of creative writing which I enjoy but I have to really push myself and work hard at it because with my diagnosis it can sometime be difficult for me to write about fiction as my brain deals better with facts. We are starting to do our mock GCSE’s I can remember not feeling nervous I did myself a revision timetable which worked really well.
Friends – I have a small friendship group and one best friend, and this is still the same today, we usually meet up and go to the cinema, go out for something to eat, which is usually pizza, and spend the day going to museum and other places of interest.
